The Missus and I were at a local store a while back when the young cashier asked if we were seniors. Due to my lack hair and cane and The Missus’s grey hair and walker, that should have been a no-brainer, but obviously she had sensitivity training and was testing her new skills. Being the curious troops the Sergeant Major raised, we asked if there was a veterans discount. She informed there was, but we would need to show our CFOne card.

“What is a CFOne card and how do we get one?” we asked Google. Here is what it said : “Go to https://www.cfmws.com/en/OurServices/CFOne/Pages/JoinNow.aspx. Click on the ‘Register NOW!’ button and fill out the registration form. They also had a link to download the form, print, fill out and send by snail mail. https://www.cfmws.com/en/OurServices/CFOne/Documents/CFOneRegistrationForm_EN.pdf

Being well trained by Sergeant Major this is exactly what we did. (Well, to be honest, The Missus did while I had my nap). It was not hard to do, very straight forward. Had to go on the hunt for our NDI 75 (ID Cards that we were issued when we retired) and scan them. No big deal as we have our grandkids to help with the hard stuff! Also should note here that we were able to apply for both of us on the same form which was very convenient

They sent us an email to tell us that they had our applications and that was that!

And did I mention that this is free to

• Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members (Regular and Reserve Force) and their families
• Former members of the CAF and their families, including families of the deceased
• Members of foreign military currently serving with the CAF and their families
• Current Staff of the Non-Public Funds, Canadian Forces (NPF, CF)
• Current staff of Military Family Resource Centres (MFRCs)

This is a link for some of the really great things that are discounted for us https://dealhack.ca/blog/canadian-military-discounts

Be sure to thank a Verteran

What is a Veteran?

A Veteran is any former member of the Canadian Armed Forces who successfully underwent basic training and is honourably released.” This also applies to the RCMP as their disability claims are managed by VAC.
